The Devil's Luck and The Prize Prince
Books 1 & 2 in the Detective Kate Bowen Mystery Thriller Series
I hope Garda detective, Kate Bowen, resonates with thriller readers everywhere.
She brings a fearless approach to the surveillance operations she directs. Her crew goes deeper undercover than any other. In claustrophobic Ireland staying under the radar has its challenges. Failing on the wrong target can turn deadly.
When I picture Kate, I see her confidently working her crew, tailing a suspect on a crowded street, or sticking with a mobile target through tough terrain. All the time pushing hard, extracting every ounce of nous from her crew to keep them in the game. A burning desire for justice her only agenda, she's not afraid to put herself in the line of fire, and a ‘never back down’ attitude frequently lands her in hot water; mostly with her bosses. Bureaucrats and politicians view the world through a different prism.
She does relationships badly, has an irrational fear of flying, and hates heights. Wish her luck as she juggles her conflicting demands.

From midway through chapter two I was hooked, like a greyhound after a hare turning each page, chasing down the story. It’s engaging, exciting and very fast paced.

This debut conspiracy (terrorism) thriller is a truly realistic read; an inside look into this sort of world where detectives are pitted against merciless killers with an unknown target and a race against the clock to stop the next attack.

Detective Kate Bowen, the story’s main character, is well defined, utterly human, hopelessly dedicated and driven in her mission, and has the character and complexity to grab your heart and sustain this series.

… the book is fast paced and propels you straight into the world of international terrorism and crime detection. Overall I enjoyed the book and was gripped from relatively early on.

An interesting mix of characters interact with Kate and she must deal with the pressures of her professional and love life. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it as a good read for the Christmas period or summer vacation.
